02The place itself

Twenty-two rooms in a 19th-century merchant haveli, restored over four years and run by the family that has owned it for six generations. Every lake-facing room has a jharokha window seat.

The rooftop restaurant looks straight across at the City Palace, which is floodlit until midnight.

The window seat

We booked the lake-view jharokha room and spent more time in that window than anywhere else in Rajasthan. Breakfast on the roof with the palace opposite is absurd in the best way.
